Mickey Mouse a la Paris
I wanted to blog a bit about Disneyland Paris. If anyone has ever gone to Disney World or Disneyland in the United States you will know what I mean when I say they are the happiest places on Earth. At least Disney World in Florida is that way. Well on one of my trips to Paris I decided to take a trip to Disneyland Paris to see how it matched up to the greatest place in Florida. Well I will sum it up by saying this, Not worth it. For all your Disney fans you will enjoy it as I did but the atmosphere and the attitude of the people there was so rude I couldn’t believe it. The pushing and the shoving was amazing. You would never find that at Disney World here.
There are two parks in Paris, a Magic Kingdom and Walt Disney Studios. Because they are so close to each other, I got to go to both in about 8 hours. Yes that’s probably about all the time you need for Disney Paris. Most of the rides are the same as in the US and surprisingly many of them are in English.
Magic Kingdom has the following type rides - the typical Main Street USA, It’s a Small World ( the Europeans are very rude on this and talked the whole time), Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, and Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast. Other thrill rides include Rock and Roll Roller Coaster, Indiana Jones Roller Coaster ( not the same as in the US), Phantom Manor ( same as US) and many more. All the kids rides are always busy. I think the Mad Hatter or Peter Pan ride was always backed up.
** Note - Fast Pass - AKA Ticket so you can come back later and ride the ride without having to wait - be careful because in Europe they tend to cut the line and not pay attention.
** Also to be noted that when it is Parade time, they like to push and shove people out of the way so they can be in the front. Now I understand the concept of Disney being a kids place and the kids enjoy parades however I don’t appreciate being pushed and shoved by adults to get my spot in line. I found that extremely rude and they weren’t even French that were pushing.
Walt Disney Studios had the Armageddon Ride. It is a fabulous ride however not for young kids. All these kids did was scream the whole time whenever something rumbled, fire came from somewhere, or smoke came out. Other things included the Cinamagique, Toon Studio, Animagique, Back Lot Studio Tour, Stitch Live, and Action Stunt Spectacular.
** Note - Many shows are either in English or have headphones provided so you can listen in English. I personally found this amusing when some of the stage shows were in english and the french had to wear headphones. It is also funny when they dubbed the shows for the french from english and I had to wear headphones and you could tell how it really sounded since the words actually matched the lip movements.
So that’s a quick overview of Disney Paris. Not a great thing to see but since I loved Disney World I thought I would give it a try. Oh did I mention that I had horrible problems with my ticket when I arrived. I prepurchased my ticket to save me time. Well that didn’t happen. I went to the place where you would enter if you bought your tickets there and instead of scanning my ticket, they sent me back to the place where you purchase your tickets. I stood in that line for a good 15 minutes, only for them to send me back to where you go if you had a ticket. It was a cycle that I thought would never end. Eventually someone realized duh I bought a ticket. Again not a great a experience.
I didn’t eat there so I can’t comment on restaurants. All I had was a hot dog and some fries because I wanted to see as much as I could. I was so sick of the rude people walking around that I just wanted to get in and get out and back to Paris. Oh yes Disney Paris is about 1 hour outside of Paris by Metro.
So don’t expect Disney happiness when you go there. It’s not all it’s cracked up to be. There may be Mickey and Minnie but the people aren’t happy. And yes there are characters.
