Obama’s Race

November 4th, 2008

(This is also being published on associated content)

This article should in no way reflect any negativity for voting for Barack Obama this is just feelings I have towards a particular subject. Race.

I’m starting to get really annoyed. I’ve been fairly quiet until now, holding my tongue. But I just can’t take it anymore. As a biracial person, I cannot understand why Barack Obama, who was raised by the white side of him, is referred to - or - refers to himself as African-American. This is just bringing up a barrage of feelings in me that I can’t hold in any longer.

First: I take offense to his one sided race, because I’m biracial too. I’ve been brought up to identify with both races. I would assume that his mother would be offended that her presidential candidate son negates her existence.

Second: Are we moving back 150 years? If you had any black in you (1/8 - or one grandparent) then you were all black by law. Didn’t we fight this a long time ago????? Why is Obama running on the African American ticket if he is only half? I really hope that it’s not because he thinks it’s just easier, that it may confuse too many people to say mulatto. Why not tell the media he is proud to be biracial? If we’re going to stir things up in this election, why not go all the way?

Third: I’m so sick and tired of people saying African American - period. If you are talking about color - just say black already. Enough of this “political correctness.” When reading into Obamas race, you see that he is half white and half African American…..does this really make sense? He’s half black and half white. If we can say “white” then we can also say “black.” If you want to talk about cultures, that’s different. Thats when you get into African, Hawaiian, Asian, Italian, etc…. It’s just common sense.

I can only hope that if Barack Obama is elected, he will go down in the history books as “The First Mulatto American President.”

Not only Stupid … but Sinister as Well

October 24th, 2008

I’ve already voted in the Presidential election. I voted for Obama. McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin as his Vice-presidential running-mate sealed my vote. I tell because I want you to know my bias upfront.

I don’t normally do political blogging. I don’t consider myself exceptionally knowledgeable about politics, and politics is not a major interest of mine. Indeed, although politics cannot be avoided with this story, the point I want to get across is a moral one, not a political one.

This is Ashley Todd. She is a 20 year old Texas A&M college student. She is an ardent McCain supporter. McCain is going to win Ashley’s (and my) home state of Texas quite handily. Obama and McCain know that so there is not much Presidential campaigning going on down here. However, Ashley evidently wanted to be involved in the McCain campaign in a way that could make a difference. So she went to the hotly contested state of Pennsylvania.

This morning on my way to work, I heard that she had been assaulted at an ATM machine by a black man. The black man was offended by her McCain/Palin sticker on her car. He knocked her to the ground, kicked her, and carved a letter B for Barack into her face.

Poor her, right? … Well not so fast. Look at the picture. Yes Ashley has a black eye and the “B” on her face but there are no other cuts or scrapes. The “B” is a scratch. There will be no permanent scarring. It is a well formed letter which would be surprising for something done in anger on a squirming person trying to protect herself from an assault. In fact, the only thing wrong with the B is that it is backwards … almost as though the B were made by someone looking in a mirror.

This is a more recent picture of Ashley. She is being led away in handcuffs … after admitting that she lied. The only person who assaulted Ashley was Ashley herself. What a stupid, stupid girl.

I was young once upon a time. I know that young people can occasionally do stupid things. I remember doing them. I am all for writing off a certain amount of stupidity as necessary for a healthy maturation process. But what I can’t forgive is the meanness inherent in this act.

What was she trying to do? I think the answer to that question is obvious. She was trying to gain sympathy and votes for McCain/Palin. But how was she going to do that? By portraying Obama supporters as crazed black guys willing to cut up white women who support McCain. In short she appealed to about as vile a stereotype as one can appeal to. That is unacceptable no matter how naive the perpetrator. If you have to stoop to this level in order to achieve a goal, then your goal is not worth achieving.

Introduction

Introduction to Religion and the World

If we like it or not, religion is and always has been an important factor of almost every aspect of life. Religious influence is an over-aching theme throughout the realms of household to country wide ethics, from how one person treats their neighbour to the largest scales of how one country treats another and the politics of states, providences and countries.

It seems to many however, that religion has lost it’s importance throughout everyday life. Not as many people attended Church for example now as they did in the middle ages. The public belief in God (mainly the God of Abraham) in the Eastern World has decreased dramatically according to some surveys and investigations. However, that is not the case- religion has lost it’s visible importance. The respect for ministers of the Faith(s) has indeed decreased from the mid-1900’s, however religion is still important in people’s lives.

People of this world look for continuity in their lives. With the ever changing world around us, people need something that stays the same, it is natural for us as humans to search for something comforting that is sill and continuous rather than chaotic and erratic. For example, the world is changing in terms of economic shifts in all countries of the world, the earth is physically changing with global warming and dramatic environmental changes that follow. All of which will be discussed in later blogs. One of the only things which seem to follow the ever updating world is (some areas of) the modern Church, whilst keeping the traditional belief in God, a never changing aspect in this ever-changing world. Therefore, you find either a burst of people looking towards to Church for certain reasons (that will be discussed on later blogs) or a burst of people looking towards God (usually a traditional God), which could create a oxymoronic neo-Christian movement (which will again be discussed later.)

Anyway, this blog is just designed to serve as an introduction to what will be added later, with regard to the Christian life-style in the Eastern world, and it’s influences in modern leadership and communities. In addition, the relationship between Church and State, Politics and many other latest issues with Christianity and life issues in the secular community will later be discussed.

Religion within an ever-changing World.
